Tagul

What it is…

Tagul is a web service that gives users the ability to create customisable word clouds.  These clouds can be formed by text inserted into Tagul (ala Wordle) or via a URL.

Why it’s awesome…

Tagul is interactive and dynamic.  For example, the Tagul below gets its words from this blog.  I have set the Tagul to refresh every 12 hours, so as each new post goes in the word cloud will reconfigure itself to match.  Also every word can be linked to a site, in this case a Google search, so when visitors click on a word, it will return search results based on their selection.

Tagul gives users a lot of control over which words to include/exclude as well as a host of other variables to tweak.  The provision of embeddable code is the icing on the cake.

What it needs…

It’s still a little buggy and on first glance it’s a little overwhelming.  The user interface is a little intimidating.  Lastly the looming prospect of ads being introduced to Tagul in the future makes me nervous.
